Overview
Wild Nettle (Τσουκνίδα) has been gathered in the mountainous regions of Crete since antiquity as both a mineral-rich spring tonic and a versatile wild culinary green. Carefully hand-picked in Sises and dried under shade in our cottage workshop, these pure leaves deliver vital nourishment as a hot infusion or traditional island recipe ingredient.
Flavor Profile & Wellness Benefits
Deeply green, earthy, and rich with a pleasant spinach-like herbal flavor. Nettle is naturally packed with plant-based iron, calcium, magnesium, and antioxidants, making it a staple for natural vitality and seasonal wellness.
Preparation & Culinary Uses
- Nourishing Herbal Tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of dried leaves in hot water for 5–7 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm with fresh lemon juice or Cretan honey.
- Traditional Cretan Pies (Hortopita): Rehydrate dried leaves in warm water and mix into wild green fillings for traditional baked pies with feta cheese and extra virgin olive oil.
